The private military company Redut (Redut) is the new Wagner, with the control and financing of its activity taken over by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of Russia.

According to British military intelligence, cited by the BBC’s Russian service, the organization recruits mercenaries, including former associates of Wagner, which formally disbanded with the death of its founder and leader Yevgeny Prigozhin in a plane crash , on August 23, 2023.

Redut currently has more than 7,000 people and since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the organization has participated in hostilities in the regions of Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kiev and Lugansk.

The organization is currently one of several private military companies and volunteer corps used by the Ministry of Defense to meet the needs of the Russian regular forces.

In the British military intelligence report, it is said that the practice of creating “volunteer” units is very likely to have helped Russia avoid new waves of conscription, which is unpopular in the world.

Last week investigative journalists from the websites Shemi and Sistema published a major investigation into the secret recruitment of Russians for the needs of the war.
