There is no end to the details coming to light from the last moments of the lives of the victims of the Hamas attack in Israel.

An 80-year-old Israeli-American woman and her 13-year-old granddaughterwho were both abducted by Hamas fighters from their kibbutz on October 7, were found deadthe family told CNN on Thursday.

The IDF confirmed the deaths of Carmela Dunn and Noya Dunn to their family on Wednesday, according to Jason Greenberg, a relative who lives in Massachusetts.

“Right now their bodies are being returned to their families for burial,” he said.

Carmela Dunn held Israeli, American and French citizenship while her granddaughter, Noya Dunn, was an Israeli citizen. Their death was also confirmed by a family member on Facebook.

News of the death comes more than a week after five family members were abducted from their home in Nir Oz, a kibbutz in southern Israel, just a few miles from the Gaza border.

Greenberg revealed to CNN a series of messages from family members who said they were hiding in a safe room and heard gunshots and smelled smoke.

The last message read:

“We heard them. They are coming.”

The family’s home was set on fire and its members were taken hostage, Greenberg said.

Three other family members, all Israeli citizens, are still missing: Noya’s brothers Erez Calderon, 12, and Sahar Calderon, 16, and their father Ofer Calderon, 50.

The Hamas attack killed more than 1,400 people in Israel, according to Israeli authorities.
