Belgium’s Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborn has resigned after new information came to light about the Brussels terrorist
He announced his resignation a while ago the Minister of Justice of Belgium, Vincent Van Quickenborn, after new evidence came to light about the Brussels terrorist.
As he noted, “This morning at 9am, I noticed the following: on August 15, 2022, there was an extradition request from Tunisia for this man. This request was forwarded on September 1st, as it should have been, by the legal expert to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. The relevant judge did not respond to this extradition request and the file was not processed.” He emphasized that it is “an individual mistake. A monumental mistake. An unacceptable mistake. A mistake with dramatic consequences. The independence of a judge is the foundation of our rule of law. I have always defended this principle and will continue to defend it. As the minister of justice, I cannot under any circumstances interfere with the decisions of a judge.”
“Although this is the work of a single and independent judge, I still want to take responsibility for this unacceptable mistake. I am not looking for any pretext at all. I’m not looking for excuses. I feel it is my duty to do so”Vincent Van Quickenborn concluded.
