North Korea strongly criticized the US today for the delivery of ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile Systems) to Ukraine, underlining that a possible attack with such missiles on the territory of Russia would harm the peace efforts.

Ukraine announced on Tuesday that it used US ATACMS missiles for the first time to hit two airfields in areas held by Russian troops. Kiev has been asking for these long-range ballistic missiles for months, assuring that it will not use them to hit targets on Russian soil. He believes that these missiles can change the course of the war that began 20 months ago, when the Russian army invaded Ukrainian territory.

“The US has finally delivered an ATACMS missile system to Ukraine, despite deep concern and strong opposition from the international community,” said Shin Hong Chol, North Korea’s ambassador to Russia. “Any strike on the territory of Russia, a nuclear power, will not contribute to the rapid resolution of the Ukrainian crisis or its peaceful settlement, as the US claims. On the contrary, it will prolong the conflict” and the whole of Europe will risk being plunged into the vortex of an unrelenting war, he added.

On October 13, the White House had accused North Korea of recently handing over military hardware to Russia, expressing concern over Pyongyang’s expanded cooperation with Moscow.
