Tim Allen Surrenders Accomplices, Gets Out of Jail With Reduced Sentence – Says That Lesson Was Valuable
Many know the popular American actor and comedian Tim Allen from the Santa movies and as the “voice” of Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story movies. But did you know that the actor has a dark past? Allen, now 70, was arrested in his youth for carrying a kilo of cocaine in his bag.
This story continues to haunt him to this day, even after he has long since put his dark past behind him. The good thing is that most people don’t even know about his drug arrest, as his Hollywood success has since overshadowed it.
Allen (Timothy Alan Dick his real name) he was born on June 13, 1953 in Denver, Colorado. He was the third of six children born to real estate agent Gerald M. Dick and social worker Martha Kathryn Dick.
Allen always had a knack for making people laugh. He made his standup debut at Detroit’s Comedy Castle in 1975, just a year before graduating.
His career as a comedian began to flourish. After graduating, he worked at an advertising agency by day and did standup comedy at night. His career was on the rise, but it threw him into abuse and drug use.
But Allen wasn’t just a user, but he also trafficked drugs. On October 2, 1978, he happened to hand over a bag full of cocaine to an undercover police officer. He was arrested at Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan after he was found almost half a kilogram (453 grams) of cocaine in his luggage. She was 25 years old, too it was not his only arrest.
He risked even me Life imprisonment if he had not pleaded guilty to felony drug trafficking. Allen needed too to surrender his accomplices to be sentenced to three to seven years in prison. Allen was behind bars for two years and four months.
After eight months in prison, Allen adjusted to his new situation. He learned also a valuable lesson.
The actor wasted no time in returning to his first love: standup comedy. He was a regular at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood, California.
In 1988, Allen made his film debut in a small role as a baggage handler in the 1988 American drama Tropical Snow, starring David Carradine and Madeleine Stowe.
But it was only in 1991 that he became known as the star of the serial Home Improvement which ran for eight seasons. The rise and shine since then has been constant, leaving the darkness behind.
