At least two people were killed and many injured in an Israeli airstrike on the West Bank refugee camp of Jenin, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported that the Al Ansar mosque in the area was bombed. The television network is broadcasting images from the scene of the attack, where rescue teams have rushed to search for survivors in the rubble.

The Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet – Israel’s internal security agency – confirmed the airstrike in the West Bank city of Jenin. In a joint statement they issued, they claim that they hit underground tunnels in the area of the mosque, where Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters had taken refuge.

The Shin Bet and the IDF claim they had information about an imminent terrorist attack planned by the cell, which was using the mosque as a base for its operations.
