Armita Geravand, the 16-year-old Iranian girl who fell into a coma earlier in October after being beaten by Iranian officials for violating Iran’s hijab (head covering) law, is said to be “stroked dead”, as Iranian media reported today.

“Updates on Armita Heravad’s health condition suggest that she is brain dead, despite the efforts of medical personnel,” the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network reported.

Ethon police attacked the girl in the Tehran subway on October 4, and she has been in intensive care since then, in a coma.

Footage shared with IRNA showed the young woman without the mandatory hijab accompanied by two female friends walking towards the train from the subway platform. Once inside the cabin, one of the girls is seen immediately backing up and grabbing the ground, before another girl is dragged unconscious from the cabin by the passengers.

The 16-year-old girl was arrested and later it became known that she was taken to the intensive care unit unconscious.

Her death has shocked the international community as Armita has become the “second” Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old Iranian woman who died after being beaten by Ethan police last year and sparked the global Mantilla Movement.
