The famous Arab-Israeli actress Maisa Abd Elhadi was arrested on suspicion of “incitement to terrorism” because of a post she made on Instagram after the attack launched by Hamas on Israeli soil, as it became known today Tuesday from the police and her lawyers.

The 38-year-old actress, who lives in Nazareth, was arrested on Monday and remanded in custody until Thursday because – according to the police – she shared on her Facebook page a photo of a bulldozer tearing down the fence on Israel’s border with the Gaza Strip. “Let it be like in Berlin”, she commented, referring to the fall of the wall in 1989.

The members of Israel’s Arab minority are not few who were fired by their employers, were expelled from universities or arrested for social media posts expressing solidarity with the beleaguered population of the Gaza Strip. Israeli armed forces are pounding the Palestinian enclave controlled by Hamas in retaliation for the unprecedented October 7 attack on southern Israel.

The Arab minority represents about 20% of Israel’s total population. Its members are mainly descendants of Palestinians who remained in the homeland after the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
