Mitsotakis after the Summit: The only definitive, political solution of the two states Israel-Palestine

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from Brussels mentioned the results of the Summit a little while ago. As he typically said “we reached satisfactory common ground.”

The prime minister referred to the Middle Eastreiterating his position that the only definitive solution is a two-state political solution. The prime minister noted that ErdoÄŸan’s positions on Hamas are out of character, while he repeated that for our country Hamas is a terrorist organization. He added, not that we disagree with Turkey should not affect the context of the Greek-Turkish dialogue and the progress that has been madeKyriakos Mitaotakis noted, among others, and pointed out that Israel must take into account the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The prime minister also addressed the immigration problem, stressing that “We need more resources for migration and natural disaster response. The first priority is the management of the phenomenon.”

“We reached a satisfactory common ground, on the one hand it recognizes Israel’s right to self-defense within the limits set by International Lawon the other hand, expresses its strong concern about the humanitarian situation prevailing today in Gaza and I believe that the decision on ceasefires for humanitarian needs, sends the message that Israel must take seriously the situation in Gauze and to allow the entry of humanitarian aid”, the prime minister emphasized. He insisted, didn’t he? the two-state solution in the Middle East is back on the agenda of European foreign policy, “Israel’s security problem will only be solved through a political solution” noted Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In response to APE-MPE’s question as to whether her attitude Turkey in the Middle East and especially against Hamas may negatively affect the ongoing Greek-Turkish rapprochement, the prime minister emphasized that: “Hamas is a terrorist organization, it does not represent the Palestinian peopleanyone who sees the atrocities he committed is very hard to come to a different conclusion, so I would say that President ErdoÄŸan is completely out of touch when he does not recognize this reality. Beyond that, however, the fact that we disagree on this matter, I believe that it should not affect the framework of the Greek-Turkish dialogue and the important steps of progress that have been made in recent months. We remain focused on our positive agenda and the timetable, as clearly outlined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on how we can get to Supreme Council of Cooperation on the 7th of December”.

In a question about Greece’s aspirations in the debate on the revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework, Mr. Mitsotakis he emphasized that “it was not an easy discussion, obviously there are countries that do not want to hear about an increase in the EU budget beyond the amount foreseen for Ukrainebut I made the Greek position very clear that Greece is not going to agree to a solution that only includes Ukraine and nothing else. The argument of the European Commission is absolutely reasonable, we need more money for Refugees and managing the problem as a country – Europe’s external border and obviously we need more money for natural disasters.” The Prime Minister expressed the hope that a solution would be found by the end of the year.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that the government has already provided support for households heated with electricity and referred to its announcements Ministry of Energy and Environment next week, talking about one equitable intervention. Referring to his upcoming visit to China, the prime minister spoke of long-planned trip next Friday to Beijing and contacts with Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Chinese counterpart. Regarding today’s Eurozone Summit, Mr. Mitsotakis expressed it satisfaction at the recognition of the progress of the Greek economy in recent years by the institutional leadership of the EU. “From a black sheep, Greece today can become a champion in terms of European development”, said the prime minister and emphasized that the recovery of the investment grade is an achievement of the Greek people and unfortunately some treat it with small-mindedness. Finally, he emphasized that Greece is already on the right track and explained that it wishes to have national ownership of the interventions to reduce the debt, but also of the reforms it has already launched and underlined the Athens’ emphasis on the exclusion of defense spending from the EU’s way of calculating it.
