Russia continues to demonstrate its military might in the West, while the situation in Ukraine is not said to escalate.
In this context, Russian military units in Belarus conducted a joint exercise with Belarusian soldiers “in multiple areas of training”, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday, with Moscow publishing plans reminiscent of the Cold War.
According to the Russian ministry, the troops practiced various techniques and methods of military operations, including “preparing for defense” and “fighting illegal armed groups”. The exercises involved tanks, artillery helicopters and rocket launchers.
It is noted that the exercises of the joint Russian-Belarusian forces will take place in two stages, the first of which will last until February 9. The Russian Ministry of Defense noted that the second stage, which takes place from 10 to 20 February, is scheduled for joint exercises called “Allied Resolve – 2022”.
The Russian and Belarusian armies are working to “suppress external aggression and fight terrorism, in particular by blocking arms and ammunition supply channels.” The assignments will also include the destruction of illegal armed groups and sabotage and reconnaissance groups. “
“The catastrophic steps, which are not justified by anyone, increase the military tension, narrow the field for political decisions,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grusko said on Wednesday, when asked by Interfax about the decision to transfer in Europe.
