Kirby noted that some fuel is now available in the Gaza Strip, but more is needed
Another 10 trucks carrying humanitarian aid crossed into Gaza, amid shelling from Israel, he announced White House spokesman John Kirby.
Kirby noted that some fuel is now available in the Gaza Strip, but more are needed.
He emphasized that the US, together with its partners, will continue to exert pressure for the release of the hostages held by Hamas. He added that if a local, temporary pause (of the fighting) is needed to free the hostages from Gaza, then “we’re all for it.” Washington would also support a cease-fire, so that humanitarian aid and fuel can be sent to Gaza and electricity restored.
The US official also said he had seen reports of the expansion of Israeli ground operations in Gaza but declined to comment on the matter.
The head of the United Nations Antonio Guterres warned that Gaza faces “an unprecedented avalanche of human suffering” due to lack of food, water and electricity following Israeli bombardments in response to the Hamas attack. “This is the moment of truth… History judges us all. Everyone must take their responsibilities,” he pointed out.
“I repeat my appeal for a humanitarian ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages and the delivery of life-saving supplies,” the UN Secretary General said in a statement.
