At least 10 people have been killed and 25 injured in a train crash in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, a senior local government official said.

The accident occurred when two trains collided with each other, according to a railway service official. Rescue teams have rushed to the spot, near Vizianagaram.

Couple of minutes ago, the state’s Chief Minister said that a train running from Rayagada to Vizianagaram derailed and news website NDTV reported three dead.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Ish Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked that as many ambulances as possible be sent from Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli, the two districts closest to Vizianagaram. He also directed to coordinate government operations so that immediate steps are taken to rescue and treat the injured.
