The two protesters also unfurled a banner reading “For the sake of health – Stop the oil” and then staged a sit-in while waiting for the police to arrive.
Both were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
The dinosaur effigy is central to “The Titanosaur: Life as the Biggest Dinosaur” exhibition, which remained closed to the public for the rest of the day, according to The Telegraph newspaper.
The skeleton was made with fossils discovered in South America in 2014 and is on loan from the Egidio Feruglio Museum of Paleontology, a scientific research and exhibition center in Trelew, Argentina.
“As a National Health System doctor I have spent many years caring for patients with diseases caused by fossil fuels. I have done everything in my legal power to get our message across. Most of them were ineffective. So it’s time to break the law. I don’t see any other way at this time,” Stableforth said in a statement before the protest.
