Two days ago, a new fountain was inaugurated in Vienna, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the supply of spring water to the city.

However, the unveiling of the new fountain – which cost €2 million of taxpayers’ money – divided the public.

The creation of the artistic group Gelatin did not have good reviews and the fountain called WirWasser was negatively characterized in various ways.

Indeed, according to the local website Heute, residents of the Sonnwendviertel area denounced the “luxurious fountain”, believing it was unnecessary – there was even a petition campaign against it.

However, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen – who attended the opening – in his speech referred to the importance of modernizing the city’s water supply system 150 years ago, which improved the quality of life of residents and limited the spread of diseases such as cholera.

Nevertheless, the fountain “didn’t convince” and a party was set up on Twitter…
