Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis said on Tuesday they had fired a “large number” of ballistic missiles and drones at Israel.

Earlier on Tuesday, air raid sirens sounded in the southern Israeli city of Eilat after an “intruding enemy aircraft” was shot down by Israel over the Red Sea, it said.

Reuters reports that the group’s military spokesman Yahya Saree said in a televised statement that this was the third operation targeting Israel and warned that more would follow.

AFP reports that during a visit to Qatar, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said it was “natural” for Tehran-backed groups to attack Israel in the shadow of war against Hamas, warning for wider diffusion if a ceasefire is not reached.

In particular, he said that “it is natural that resistance groups and movements do not remain silent in the face of all these crimes. They will not wait for anyone’s advice, so we must use the last political opportunities to stop the war.”

Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced that it used the “Arrow” air defense system for the first time since the conflict began to intercept a surface-to-surface missile launched from the Red Sea region.
