The EU will increase humanitarian aid to Gaza by 25 million euros, announced today the President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen, speaking at the conference of the Permanent Representatives of the EU countries in Brussels.

“We have a responsibility to do everything possible to protect civilians who may be at risk. Today I am able to announce that we are further increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza by another €25 million,” said von der Leyen, noting that the EU’s total humanitarian aid to Gaza will reach €100 million.

The President of the Commission reiterated that Israel has the right to defend itself according to international and humanitarian law. At the same time, he argued that the EU has the credibility to present ideas for a political solution based on the two-state solution.

Speaking for Ukraine, von der Leyen stated that a “sustainable military power” capable of defending the country and added that “the best way to give Ukraine stability and prosperity in the medium and long term is to join the EU.”
