A Moscow court today included Lucy Stein, a member of the punk band Pussy Riot who is abroad, on an international wanted list for intentionally spreading “false” information about the Russian armed forces, the Russian news agency TASS reported.

The agency cites a source at Moscow’s Basmani court as reportedly saying that Stein (the dark-haired girl in the photo) will be arrested as soon as she enters Russia. However, he did not specify what false information he is accused of.

Stein, 27, who was previously a councilor in a Moscow district, fled Russia where she escaped house arrest.

She had stated that she managed to escape wearing the uniform of a food distributor. On her Instagram account, she had posted a photo of the severed tracking bracelet on her leg.

Since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to invade Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has enacted a series of laws imposing harsh penalties on anyone Moscow deems to be defaming the armed forces or spreading false news about them.

Feminist opposition group Pussy Riot, which rose to public prominence when members stormed the Cathedral of Jesus the Savior in Moscow in February 2012, wearing balaclavas and singing an anti-Putin song.

Russian officials say the group, praised by some in the West for challenging Russian President Putin, deliberately sought to discredit Russian culture, morality and Orthodoxy

While in Russia, Stein was repeatedly arrested by Russian police for participating in protest rallies. During one of those arrests in December 2021, Stein, along with fellow Pussy Riot member Maria Alyokhina, went on hunger strike.
