Maisara Rages, 28, has been an intensivist and supervising physician for the past two years at MDM, said in a press release issued by the organization, which employs 18 other workers in the Gaza Strip.
A young intensivist who worked for the French humanitarian organization Médecins du Monde (MDM) died on Sunday, along with the rest of his family, when their home in Gaza was bombed, the NGO announced Thursday in Paris , expressing “deep concern” for its teams that remain in the field.
Maisara Rages, 28, has been an intensivist and supervising physician for the past two years at MDM, the organization, which employs 18 other workers in the Gaza Strip, said in a press release.
His death is a “reflection of what the entire civilian population is going through” in the Palestinian enclave, Florence Rigal, president of Doctors of the World, told AFP.
In its statement, the organization emphasizes that it “condemns from the beginning of this armed conflict the incessant bombings that are carried out indiscriminately and continue to kill many civilians, our fellow workers in humanitarian organizations and members of the health staff” and recalls “in this tragic circumstance that a ceasefire is an urgent necessity of vital importance to end this centenary”.
“We remain deeply concerned for our teams on the ground” as “it is almost impossible for humanitarian workers and medical and nursing staff to carry out their mission”, underlines Doctors of the World.
On Tuesday evening, it was the organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) that announced the death of its worker, Mohamed al-Ahel, a laboratory technician, in Gaza: he was killed along with other members of his family in an Israeli bombardment of the camp of Sati refugees on 6 November.
Israel and Hamas have been embroiled in war since the Palestinian Islamist movement’s unprecedented surprise attack on Israeli soil on October 7, targeting the Gaza Strip.
On the Israeli side, more than 1,400 people were lost, most of them civilians killed on the day of the attack, according to Israeli authorities.
In the Gaza Strip, Israel’s relentless massive retaliatory shelling has claimed the lives of 10,800 people, mostly civilians, according to Hamas’ health ministry.
After more than a month of shelling, hundreds of thousands of civilians, according to the UN, remain trapped in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, the part of the Palestinian enclave where the operations of Chahal, the Israeli army, are concentrated.
