Scientists and authorities are monitoring its increasing activity. the hundreds of earthquakes and the rising magma level while they have already evacuated the city of Grindavík as a precaution.

The whole of Iceland has been put on alert.

“The possibility of an eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula or just outside it has increased since the morning. An explosion could start at any moment in the next few days,” the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) said today

Fagradalsfjall had been dormant for 800 years before an eruption in 2021.
