The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls for “international intervention to protect civilians” in the hospital
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry today accused Israel’s army of “blatantly violating” international law by launching a military operation at al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, while Jordan assessed that the “silence” of the UN Security Council allows “brutality”.
For his part, the Palestinian president spoke of a “war against the existence of the Palestinians”.
The battle around the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip is now taking place in its wings and floors, while according to AFP, Israeli tanks are now inside the complex, having taken up positions in front of various services, including that of the emergencies.
In the statement, the Palestinian ministry called for “international intervention to protect civilians” at the hospital.
According to the president of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud AbbasIsrael conducts in the Gaza Strip “a war against the existence of the Palestinians“, as he complained in his speech today.
Abbas also spoke of “a barbaric war” and “genocide“, which is “conducted under the gaze of the global community”.
“It is a war against the existence of the Palestinians, against the Palestinian national identity, the identity of the land and its inhabitants,” said the Palestinian president based in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank.
In the meantime, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi denounced that the Israeli operation in al-Sifah “demonstrates the brutality allowed by the silence of the UN Security Council.”
“We denounce the silence of the Security Council regarding this barbarity. This silence covers war crimes. This silence cannot be accepted or justified. The Council must act,” he underlined in a post on Platform X, denouncing “a disaster” at the hospital.
About 2,300 people, according to the UN, including patients, health workers and those displaced by the war, are inside al-Sifah in dire conditions, without water or electricity.
The Israeli army accuses Hamas of using the hospital as a military base, which the Palestinian movement denies.
