After marathon negotiations in Qatar, a draft agreement was drawn up that provides for the release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for a “five-day ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip, according to the US newspaper Washington Post citing well-informed sources.
According to the publication, the six-page plan details the commitments of the warring parties. Aerial surveillance of movements in the Palestinian enclave will verify the ceasefire within the stipulated period.

The ceasefire is also intended to allow trucks with humanitarian aid – including fuel – to enter the besieged Palestinian enclave from Egypt.
The Washington Post reports that the US, Israel and Hamas – the Palestinian Islamist group that has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007 – support the plan under consultation.
At a press conference on Saturday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied “false reports” of an imminent deal to free some of the approximately 240 hostages held in the Gaza Strip, assuring his countrymen that they would be informed if such an agreement is reached.
