For the second day in a row, Secretary of State Eli Cohen is warning that Hezbollah’s continued attacks against Israel could lead to all-out war in Lebanon.

“Attacks by Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy, could lead to war in Lebanon,” Cohen says at a media briefing.

“Israel is not interested in opening another front, but we cannot continue to tolerate such attacks. It is the responsibility of the international community to fully implement resolution 1701 in order to prevent a war in Lebanon,” he continues.

UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the Second Lebanon War in 2006, called for the disarmament of all Lebanese militias – a reference to Hezbollah – and in southern Lebanon, but was never implemented.

On Tuesday, Cohen wrote to the UN Security Council warning that regional war could break out because of Hezbollah’s repeated attacks against Israeli civilians and the IDF and called on the body to implement Resolution 1701 to avoid such a scenario.
