French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said she was relatively “optimistic” about the fate of the French hostages, noting that they could be released as part of a prisoner swap between Israel and Hamas.

“I know it is a difficult wait. We are working tirelessly for their release,” France’s foreign minister said in a televised interview as 17 hostages were being flown from Gaza to Israel, including a 4-year-old American girl and a Russian man.

It is noted that Hamas has released 58 people since Friday, but there are no French hostages among them. “There are lists drawn up during the negotiations through Qatar,” but then “Hamas makes its choices from those lists,” the minister explained. “We are asking for the release of our hostages and all hostages. It would be good, useful and necessary for the truce to be extended in this direction,” he told BFMTV.
