The story of the unfortunate girl who was sentenced to death by the village council of elders has caused global outrage
The father and three other relatives of the 18-year-old girl who was murdered on Sunday in a Pakistani mountain village – because she appeared in a photo on social media, dancing with a friend – were picked up by police today, while the story has made the rounds world causing angry reactions.
The two girls were sentenced to death by the council of elders of her village, with the consent of the men of the family as the publication of photographs of women is considered an issue taboo in the areas where tribes live.
Police announced that the 18-year-old was shot and killed by her own father, Arslan Mohsin.

The honor crime took place in the Kolai-Palas Valley, in the mountainous part of northwestern Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan.
Three other relatives were arrested and were brought before a court, police official Masood Khan told Reuters, adding that more arrests were imminent.
Relatives had also called for the 18-year-old’s friend, who was pictured with her, to be honor-killed, but she was rescued by police, officials said.
Every year, hundreds of women in Pakistan are victims of honor crimeswhich are committed by relatives who claim to be acting in defense of family honor, according to human rights groups, usually in deeply conservative rural areas of the country.
Lawmakers in Pakistan have called for the young woman’s alleged killers to be severely punished, while human rights groups have expressed concern over the country’s failure to stamp out such crimes.
Despite tougher laws and social outcry in Pakistan, honor killings continue, with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan reporting 384 cases in 2022 alone, said Nadia Rahman of Amnesty International’s regional office for South Asia.
“The government of Pakistan and law enforcement agencies are called upon to provide protection to the survivors of this case and prosecute those involved without resorting to the death penalty,” he noted.
