The main demand of Polish transporters is to stop Ukrainian truckers from accessing EU countries without a permit, which Kiev and Brussels say is impossible.
The first 30 trucks passed through the new crossing which opened at the border Ukraine-PolandUhryniv-Dolkhobitsuf, which Kiev expects will unblock key land transport corridors amid protests by Polish truck drivers, Ukraine’s border service said today.
These protests against what Polish truck drivers see as unfair competition from their Ukrainian colleagues began on November 6, and four border crossings have been blocked for several days.
The main demand of Polish transporters is to stop Ukrainian truckers from accessing EU countries without a permit, which Kiev and Brussels say is impossible.
“As of this morning, December 4, border guards have released 30 heavy vehicles with a total permissible weight of more than 7.5 (metric) tons to depart Ukraine at the Ukhriniv border checkpoint”the Ukrainian border service said in a post on the Telegram messaging app.
The border crossing opened at 01:00 local time (02:00 Greek time) today.
Ukraine announced last week that it had agreed some measures with Poland that could ease pressure on blocked border crossings, but noted that the main demands of the protesting drivers had not been discussed.
