Despite his low popularity, the US president is almost certain to win his party’s nomination for the November 2024 election.
“If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I would be running,” US President Joe Biden, who will seek a second term in the 2024 presidential election, said on Tuesday.
“But we can’t let him win,” the Democratic president, 81, added during a meeting with Democratic donors near Boston in the northeastern US, referring to the Republican former president.
Democrat Joe Biden, whose age worries voters and who himself is trying to tout his work on the economy, has often repeated that democracy itself is at stake in this heralded new showdown with the former businessman.
Despite his low popularity, and barring a major surprise or a serious health problem that would force him to retire, the US president is almost certain to win his party’s nomination for the November 2024 election.
Donald Trump, for his part, is currently the overwhelming favorite in the Republican Party primaries.
