Britain: Pressure on Johnson to apologize after Labor leader’s harassment by crowd

Another reason to find Boris Johnson in the crosshairs of intense criticism even by Conservatives MPs in Britain have been given the pro-government opposition leader’s harassment by a crowd of protesters on Monday night.

Sir Kir Starmer had to flee in a police patrol as anti-Covid vaccine protesters began cursing him, mostly calling him a “pedophile” and threatening to move against him when he was spotted walking in Westminster.

The attack has been blamed by opposition and ruling party lawmakers on the British Prime Minister’s accusation in the House of Commons that he did not prosecute the pedophile BBC presenter Jimmy Saville during his time as chief prosecutor.

This is a category that, as accepted by research, is not valid and is now circulated on the internet by far-right elements.

Boris Johnson’s refusal to apologize led to the resignation of Munira Mirza, a 14-year-old trusted adviser, who wrote in the resignation letter that it was a “baseless”, “misleading” and “slanderous” accusation.

After days, the Prime Minister tried to “clarify” what he said, saying that he was referring to the overall responsibility of the organization headed by Mr. Starmer and not to his individual responsibility.

However, even the former Northern Ireland Minister for Tories, Julian Smith, wrote on Twitter that “it’s really important for our democracy and for the security (of Mr. Starmer) that the false slander against Saville that was made against him be completely withdrawn. ». At least five other Conservative lawmakers agreed with him, including Tobias Elwood, who heads the parliamentary defense committee, and called on the prime minister to apologize and stop slipping into this “Trump policy style.”

Opposition lawmakers such as Labor MP Chris Bryant, head of the parliamentary committee on conducting public life, commented that Boris Johnson knowingly threw a “grenade” at him in Parliament, despite the advice of his advisers not to do so.

Boris Johnson himself condemned the attack on Sir Kir Starman on Twitter on Monday as “utterly shameful”.

However, on Tuesday morning, Undersecretary of Technology Chris Philpp hinted that the Prime Minister had no intention of apologizing to Kir Starman, dismissing claims that what was said in Parliament was to blame for yesterday’s provocation.
