Trump: “Russia hostage” Germany, Merkel did not hear me about Nord Stream 2

by

“Hostage of Russia” Donald Trump described Germany today as Tuesday, in his statements on the Fox Business TV show.

The former US president was referring to Nord Stream 2, the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which has strained relations between Berlin and Washington amid the Ukraine crisis.

“I really tried to persuade (former Chancellor Angela Merkel) not to sign the pipeline agreement because I said Germany would be taken completely hostage. “And what is it, a hostage of Russia?” Trump said.

The real estate mogul also criticized Merkel’s successor, Chancellor Olaf Solz, for his behavior at yesterday’s joint press conference with US President Joe Biden at the White House.

“If you were looking at the leader, the new leader of Germany, he was looking at Biden like … what are you talking about? He did not even comment on it, “the Republican billionaire said sharply.

Yesterday, welcoming the German Chancellor for the first time to the White House, Joe Biden stressed that the US and Germany “act together” against Russia’s “aggression” in Europe.

The German chancellor has caused unrest in recent weeks as well refused to send weapons in Ukraine. At the same time, he had left the issue of Nord Stream 2 pending, until he agreed to include it in the list of possible sanctions that could be imposed on Russia in the event of an invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier, Soltz tried to reassure Americans. “We are close allies and we act in a coordinated and united manner when it comes to responding to the current crisis,” he told reporters, adding that Russia would pay a “very high price” if it invaded Ukraine.
