Israel will continue its war against Hamas “until total victory,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan, who is on a two-day visit to the region to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu said he spoke with Sullivan about regional threats, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels. They also discussed the return of hostages held by Hamas and the continuation of humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza.

“I told our American friends that our heroic fighters did not fall in vain. Deeply saddened by their loss, we are more determined than ever to continue fighting until Hamas is destroyed, until total victory,” he added in his statement.

Netanyahu’s office released a photo of the Israeli prime minister shaking hands with Sullivan in Tel Aviv.

Ahead of his visit, Sullivan told the Wall Street Journal that he would discuss a timetable for ending the war and urge Israeli officials to move “to a different phase” of their operations in Gaza. But Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallad warned that the war in Gaza “will last more than a few months.”
