A “reorganized and revitalized” Palestinian Authority should take over the governance of both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said yesterday in an interview with Israel’s Channel 12 television station.

Among other things, he said he discussed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the need to make military operations in the Gaza Strip more targeted.

The US official declined to go into details or a timetable for the development of Israel’s military operations, but described the talks as constructive and said there was “convergence to a large extent” regarding strategic goals and the steps that remain to be taken.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will visit the West Bank city of Ramallah on Friday to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the Reuters news agency reported, citing an unnamed US government official.
