The number of confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 worldwide exceeded 400 million yesterday, Tuesday, while the deaths due to complications of COVID-19 have now reached 5,761,208, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University .
The number of registered infections amounted to 400,244,031 yesterday at 17:21 local time (at 00:21 today Wednesday Greek time).
The United States, where 77,025,027 new coronavirus infections have been reported and 908,262 people have lost their lives, remains the country with the most severe pandemic in the world. The numbers they account for represent more than 19% of cases and more than 15% of deaths worldwide.
India has the second highest number of infections in the world (42,339,611), followed by Brazil (26,776,620), the country with the second heaviest death toll in the world (Johns Hopkins puts the death toll at 634,057, while the Brazilian ministry Health for a few less, 633,810 yesterday).
France, Britain, Russia and Turkey are among the countries where more than 12 million cases have been confirmed.
The number of cases worldwide exceeded 100 million on January 26, 2021; it reached 200 million on August 4 of the same year; and broke the 300 million barrier only on January 6, 2022.
