French President Emmanuel Macron said today that he “has not changed his phone number” and is always available for contact if his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin has “serious proposals” for peace in Ukraine.

“If President Putin wants dialogue and has serious proposals to make progress, exit the conflict and build a lasting peace that respects international law and therefore Ukraine’s interests and sovereignty, I will talk to him on the phone.” , Macron said at a press conference after the European summit in Brussels.

France will always be in this case “a power that will help and that will make every effort to get a result”, Macron continued, recalling his personal efforts to prevent the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and beyond, to stop it during the first months.

Vladimir Putin said yesterday, Thursday, that he is always willing to dialogue with his French counterpart but that Emmanuel Macron did not see any point in it and therefore stopped all contact.

“We are ready to continue cooperation with France. But from some point on, the French president cut ties with us,” Putin said at his big annual press conference in Moscow.

“If he’s interested (in a dialogue with the government), we’re ready,” he added. “If the French president doesn’t want to communicate with us, I don’t judge,” he stressed.
