THE former President of Albania and de facto leader of the opposition Sali Berisha today called his followers across the territory to civil disobedience against the Rama government with the aim of overthrowing it.

Speaking at a gathering of his supporters in Tirana, he described the current government as a regime, accusing its prime minister of controlling all powers in the country for the benefit of organized crime and a section of oligarchs.

She threatened her prosecutors at the same time Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crimethat he “has open accounts” with them..

The disobedience gathering of Berisha’s followers was held in front of the Parliament building while inside the “Parliamentary Orders and Ethics” Committee was examining a request by the Special Prosecutor against Corruption and Organized Crime to lift Berisha’s parliamentary immunity, so that to pave the way for his arrest, or to be placed, because of his age, under house arrest.

THE Sally Bericia he is 78 years old and under Albanian law it is not allowed to imprison people over the age of 70 except in special cases.

Berisha is accused by the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime of extensive corruption and has already been assigned the status of a person to be questioned and not an accused, with the obligation of regular attendance at the competent bodies as well as the ban on leaving the country.

Berisha, however, ignored the prosecutorial and judicial decisions arguing that due to his parliamentary status, a relevant decision of the Parliament is required.

Both the USA as well as Great Britain have declared Berisha an unwelcome person in their territory citing allegations and evidence of his involvement in corruption cases while he was prime minister.

The event led to a split in the Democratic Party, the strongest in the opposition, which he founded. However, Berisha has the largest part of the party on his side with official president Lulzlim Basha leading the minority.
