US President Joe Biden said today there was “no question” that his predecessor Donald Trump supported an insurgency, but that it was up to the judiciary to decide whether that would disqualify him from running for president in 2024.

“It’s self-evident. You all saw them. Whether it falls under the 14th Amendment (of the US Constitution) or not, we’ll leave that up to the court,” Biden told reporters during a trip to Wisconsin. “Surely, though, he supported a rebellion. There is no doubt about it. Absolutely none!”, he added.

The American president commented on yesterday’s decision in this way of the Colorado Supreme Court to disqualify Trump from running for the US presidency due to his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on Capitol Hill supporters.

The historic ruling – which Donald Trump will challenge in an appeal to the Supreme Court – makes the Republican tycoon the first US presidential candidate to be barred from the electoral process under the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, which bars those involved in ” sedition or mutiny’ to hold public office.
