After being examined by medical examiners in Israel, the bodies were returned with the mediation of the Red Cross, via the Kerem Shalom border crossing
The bodies of 80 Palestinians killed in the war in the Gaza Strip were returned by Israel on Tuesday, via the Red Cross, to the local Palestinian Authority and buried in a mass grave, AFP journalists reported.
According to sources close to the Hamas health ministry, Israeli soldiers took the bodies from hospital morgues and mass graves and transported them to Israel. The Israelis wanted to make sure there were no hostages among them.
After being examined by medical examiners in Israel, the bodies were returned with the mediation of the Red Cross, through the Kerem Shalom border crossing. They were then transported by truck and buried in a mass grave, in a plot of land used as a makeshift cemetery, in the Rafah area.
The Israeli military has not commented on the matter so far.
Military operations in Gaza in retaliation for Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 have killed 20,915 people and wounded 54,918, according to the Palestinian organization’s health ministry.
