The Kremlin stated today that any new help of European Union in Ukraine it will not affect the outcome of the conflict there and noted that spending of this kind will only hurt Europe’s economy.
The Financial Times newspaper reported yesterday, Tuesday, that the EU is in the process of drawing up an alternative plan for the financing of Ukraine, with an amount of 20 billion euros.
According to the publication, the amount will be raised by issuing mutual debt in order to circumvent Hungary’s opposition to the disbursement of money from the European budget, allowing the EU to quickly release the funds to Kiev.
Asked about the article, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov hinted, without citing specific examples, that European taxpayers are beginning to understand that their money is being wasted by the authorities in Ukraine.
“Both Europeans and Americans are already well aware of the level of corruption (in Ukraine) and understand that a significant share of this money is being stolen,” Peskov said at the regular press conference.
“This money will not be able to change the course of events (in the conflict in Ukraine)… This money is being given at the expense of EU economies which are already going through difficult times…” he said.
Peskov repeated how Moscow will continue what it calls its special military operation in Ukraine until it achieves “the objectives before us”.
