THE Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidantoday was December 27 telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The communication took place in the shadow of yesterday’s decision by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish National Assembly to approve Sweden’s accession protocol to NATO, however, according to Turkish diplomatic sources, the developments in Cyprus were also discussed.

Referring to yesterday’s decision of the Foreign Affairs Committee for Sweden, the Turkish minister stated that the process continues in the Turkish National Assembly, pending approval by the Plenary as well.

Regarding the issue of the sale of US F-16 fighter jets to Turkey, Hakan Fidan is reported to have stated that the Turkish side expects the US government and the US Congress to act in accordance with the spirit of the alliance and fulfill their commitments.

During the phone call, the latest developments in Gaza were also discussed, with the Turkish side reminding that there should be a ceasefire as soon as possible and negotiations for a permanent peace should begin.
