He blames the lack of strategy in foreign policy SYRIZA-PS the government on the occasion of the movement of Libya which submitted to the UN baselines that close the Gulf of Sirte.

In its announcement, SYRIZA-PS states: “After the illegal Turkish-Libyan memorandum of November 2019 and the Turkish-Libyan memorandum of understanding of October 2022, Libya takes another action against Greek interests, highlighting the perennial lack of strategy of the Mitsotakis government and in relationship with the neighboring country”.

He then explains: “With its decision to declare a contiguous zone, Libya is submitting to the UN for the first time base lines that close the Gulf of Sirte in a manner that blatantly violates the law of the sea. With these advanced baselines, Libya will in the future claim an important part of the Greek continental shelf in the Peloponnese and Western Crete. At the same time, Libya submits to the UN a lateral demarcation line of the bordering zone in the east, which is identified with the illegal Turkish-Libyan memorandum.

SYRIZA-PS addresses the government underlining that “it must react immediately to the UN and the EU, to the Libyan actions and do everything to return to the international initiatives on the Libyan issue from which it has been systematically excluded. Above all, it must promote a comprehensive strategy for the gradual expansion of Greece’s territorial waters in the Eastern Mediterranean and the delimitation of the EEZ/coastal shelf with the neighboring countries in the region, as SYRIZA has long proposed and as reflected in its Program.
