It has been almost two years since the Russia started her her invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 with dozens of rocket attacks on cities across Ukraine.

Russian ground troops quickly moved in. Within weeks they were in control of large areas of Ukraine and advanced into the suburbs of the capital, Kiev.

Russian forces were shelling Kharkiv and had seized territory to the east and south as far as Kherson and surrounded the port of Mariupol.

However, they encountered very strong Ukrainian resistance almost everywhere and faced serious logistical problems, as Russian troops suffered from shortages of food, water and ammunition.

Ukrainian forces have deployed Western-supplied weapons systems that have proven highly effective against the Russian advance.

By October 2022, the picture had changed dramatically and, having failed to capture Kiev, Russia had completely withdrawn from the North. In November, he recaptured the southern city of Kherson.

However, since then, little has changed in terms of control on the ground, despite Ukraine’s counteroffensive, which began in June 2023.
