Also known as the Prophet of Doom, Nostradamus is best known for his predictions
As if Nostradamus’ predictions weren’t already accurate enough, the iconic astrologer has apparently “fallen in” with yet another apocalyptic prophecy just hours into 2024 – about the New Year’s earthquake – his followers claim, according to the New York Post. And he wasn’t the only one… and a fish “showed” the earthquake according to another Japanese superstition!
Also known as the Prophet of Doom, the 16th-century French philosopher is best known for his predictions, which he wrote in his 1555 text “Les Propheties.” Those 943 verses are a bit too vague to be sure, but Nostradamus has been credited with predicting everything from the rise of Adolf Hitler to COVID-19 as a… 450-year-old “Simpsons” cartoon reports the US website.
This time, the Frenchman is credited with predicting the powerful earthquake that shook Japan on New Year’s Day. Describing his predictions for 2024, the oracle wrote: “The dry Earth will become drier and there will be great floods.”
The psychic’s followers speculated that it could be referring to the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck off the west Japanese coast on Monday, killing 57 people, damaging buildings and causing a 3 meter high tsunami. According to reports, residents in coastal communities fled to higher ground as waves battered the coast, sweeping houses and cars into the sea.
There are currently about 120 cases of people awaiting rescue on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, a government spokesman said. Japanese officials sent a 3,000-strong search and rescue team made up of military personnel, firefighters and police to the disaster site.
“The search and rescue of those affected by the earthquake is a battle against time,” Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said during an emergency meeting on Tuesday. But Nostradamus’s prediction was not the only harbinger of doom. Over the summer, divers in Taiwan encountered an injured giant ‘paddlefish’, the ‘Crisis fish’, said to be a sign of impending earthquakes.
This superstition is based on Japanese mythology, which states that the plankton-eating fish – which lives between 656 and 3,200 feet below the surface of the ocean – will purposely rise to the surface before an upcoming earthquake.
In retrospect, many Doomsday followers believed that this latest sighting was connected to the New Year’s earthquake.
“Legend is that if you see an oarfish (doomsday fish), it’s a warning sign from higher powers that disasters like earthquakes will happen soon,” read an X post on New Year’s Day. He referenced the 2011 Fukushima earthquake and tsunami, which saw dozens of these supposed marine “seismometers” wash ashore in the two years leading up to the disaster.
However, experts claim that this theory it has no scientific basis. Psychic followers also say that Nostradamus’ prediction of a “dry Earth” could refer to ongoing climate crisis, which has caused an increase in drought and fires worldwide. Last year was officially the hottest year on record, with experts predicting that 2024 could be another ‘hot year’.
