US President Joe Biden will deliver the traditional State of the Union address on Thursday, March 7, in which the current head of state presents the general direction of his policy to the US Congress, it was announced yesterday Saturday.

As tradition would have it, the Democratic president accepted the invitation extended to him by the speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson.

“At a time when our country is facing challenges, it is my solemn duty to invite you to address a full session of Congress so that you may, as the Constitution requires, take stock of the state of the Union,” Mr. Johnson said. in a letter to the head of state that he uploaded to X (the former Twitter).

“I look forward to it, Mr. Speaker of the House,” Mr. Biden replied via the same social networking site.

This speech takes on special significance in this election year, with the date chosen to be the day after “Super Tuesday”, a critical stage of the voting process in the internal party processes for the nomination of the candidates of the two major parties in the presidential elections in the USA.

The US president’s State of the Union address is usually delivered in late January or early February.
