Train drivers in Germany are called on a three-day strike from Wednesday 10 January to Friday night 12following the failure of negotiations over wages and working hours with public operator Deutsche Bahn (DB), the GDL union announced today.

Commercial train drivers will go on strike on January 9.

“The DB Group did not take advantage of the truce at Christmas to prevent collective action by presenting a negotiated proposal,” the union, which has been embroiled in a months-long standoff with Deutsche Bahn, which had already led to several strikes in 2023.

The strike will run from January 10th to January 12thsaid the union,

The union had announced in December that it was planning a strike that would last several days after the Christmas holiday.

The train drivers performed 24-hour strike early last monththe last strike of the year, after negotiations between the union and Deutsche Bahn broke down at the end of November.

The GDL is calling for a reduction in working hours from 38 to 35 hours a week for shift workers, as well as an increase of €555 a month and a one-off payment of €3,000 to deal with inflation.

Deutsche Bahn did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
