The CEO of an Indian artificial intelligence (AI) technology startup was arrested as a suspect for the murder of her four-year-old son after his body was found in her suitcase, police announced today.

Suchana Seth, head of The Mindful AI Lab in India’s tech hub, Bengaluru, was arrested in Karnataka state’s Chitradurga district as she was returning by taxi from the neighboring state of Goa after the child’s body was found inside her suitcase.

Seth was not available for comment as she was in custody and police said they do not know if she has already retained an attorney.

Employees of her company also did not make any statement.

Seth had checked into a hotel room with her son in Goa on Saturday, but the boy was not with her when she vacated the room on Monday night, Goa police inspector Paresh Naik said.

The hotel cleaning staff found traces of blood in the room when the woman left and notified police, Naik explained.

Police then contacted the taxi driver by phone and asked him to take Seth to the nearest police station, he continued.

“When we opened her suitcase we found the body of the child,” North Goa police chief Nidhin Valshan told reporters.

The Goa police took Seth to her home state, Valsan said, adding that her husband was in Indonesia and was asked to return to India.

Reuters was unable to reach her husband or anyone else in the family for comment.

A local court ordered her remand for six days, news agency ANI reported.
