Violent incidents attributed to drug-trafficking gangs in Ecuador, a country declared on Tuesday in a state of “internal armed conflict” by President Daniel Noboa, have claimed the lives of at least ten people, including two police officers, according to the still initial count the police announced in the evening.

Eight people were killed and three others were injured in Guayaquil, the country’s main port (southwest), which has become a stronghold of criminals, a police officer announced during a press conference. The police also reported via X (the former Twitter) that two of their men were “murdered” by “armed criminals” in the neighboring town of Novol.

Yesterday, the president of the country, Daniel Noboa, with a new executive order that he made public, called for the mobilization of the armed forces and the police, in order to neutralize the gangs of organized crime and terrorism that have plagued the country in recent days.
In fact, he published a list with the names of more than 20 gangs.
