A British warship joined US ships and aircraft in a successful operation to repel the “biggest yet” Houthi drone and missile attack in the Red Sea.
This was announced online by the Secretary of Defense of the United Kingdom Grand Saps.
He said the drones were heading on Tuesday night towards the British destroyer HMS Diamond, which has been deployed in the area to protect free navigation and merchant ships.
However, a total of 18 single attack dronesdesigned to detonate on impact, two anti-ship cruise missiles and one anti-ship ballistic missile were shot down.
The Americans said it was a “complex” attack, the 26th launched by the Houthis from Yemen since November 19.
Mr. Shapps stated that “using rockets of type Sea Viper and weapons, the Diamond destroyed multiple attack drones directed at it and commercial shipping in the area, without injury or damage to Diamond or its crew.”
The British Defense Secretary added that the United Kingdom and its allies “have made it clear that these illegal attacks are completely unacceptable and if they continue the Houthis will suffer the consequences – let’s take the necessary steps to protect innocent lives and the global economy.” .
