The Taliban have abducted a former BBC journalist in Afghanistan

Former BBC journalist Andrew North and eight other people were abducted in Kabul by the Taliban, according to dailymail.

North, who was on an independent journalistic mission to Afghanistan, is a war correspondent and has covered war in Baghdad and Beirut.

“Due to the lack of media, the transmission of information by the people and the suffocating atmosphere of corruption, crimes and atrocities are not sufficiently exposed,” said former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh.

“For example, nine Western nationals were abducted, including the BBC’s Andrew North and Peter Juvenal, owner of the Gandomak restaurant,” Saleh added, calling the Taliban “liars”.

BBC sources confirm the abduction.

The Taliban have not commented on the case.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has also confirmed the abduction of two journalists working for the agency in Afghanistan.

“Two journalists on a UNHCR mission and Afghan nationals working with them are being held in Kabul. We are doing everything we can to solve the problem in coordination with other bodies. “

North recently wrote on his personal blog that he had met with the Taliban leadership.

“The group that was once called Islamic Maoists is not as dishonest as many fear – until now.”

The journalist traveled to Afghanistan for several weeks during the fall and met several Taliban officials.
