The UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron he did not rule out the possibility of further attacks on Houthi installations in Yemen, following the overnight US and British strikes against 16 targets.

Speaking to the American television network NBC, Lord Cameron said that the attacks were carried out because “warnings to the Houthi they didn’t work.”

Asked if there is a risk of United Kingdom to be swept up in repeated attacks, he responded: “We will do whatever is necessary to protect our ships, to protect maritime freedom of navigation in important sea lanes.”

Prime Minister’s representative Rishi Sunak he had earlier said there were currently “no further plans” for new attacks in Yemen, but added that the government was constantly assessing security issues.

From Kiev, which he visited in the afternoon, Mr. Sunak himself said he authorized the attacks because he wanted to send “a strong signal” to the Houthis that their violations of international law, with the attacks on Red Seaare “wrong” and cannot be treated “with immunity”.

“It is clear that this type of behavior cannot go unanswered”, he added British Prime Ministerreiterating that overnight strikes were “necessary, proportionate and targeted”.
