The Houthis fired an anti-ship missile “in response” to their strikes United States and Britain against positions of the rebel organization in Yemen, an American general said today.

We know they fired at least one missile in response“, General Douglas Sims of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters, clarifying that the missile did not hit any ships.

The United States and Britain targeted 30 Houthi military positions, with more than 150 strikes in total, General Sims said.

Because of the war between Israel and Hamas, tension has risen in the Red Sea, which since November has become the scene of several attacks against merchant shipping by Iran-backed Yemeni rebels. The Houthis claim they are targeting ships linked to Israel in a show of solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

A senior Houthi official warned earlier today that “all US-British interests (have become) legitimate targets” for the rebels after the strikes.
