Israeli soldiers killed three Palestinian militants who launched an attack on a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) announced late Friday.

The three Palestinians opened fire on soldiers patrolling the Jewish settlement of Adora and security forces returned fire, according to the same source. The attackers were also in possession of axes, knives and incendiary devices, the same statement said.

A 34-year-old Israeli was injured during the exchange of fire.

The Khalil al-Rahman Brigade, an offshoot of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, claimed responsibility for the attack on the Jewish settlement. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades are considered close to Fatah, the Palestinian Authority president’s faction that dominates the West Bank.

In a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, the Khalil al-Rahman Brigade threatened further attacks against Jewish settlements.

Tensions in the occupied West Bank have escalated since the start of Israeli military operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
