“Nine wanted persons were hiding on the campus, the Israeli army assured, according to which it was core student members of Hamas».
The army added that it has set under arrest “many other suspects in order to interrogate them” as part of this operation which targets “terrorist groups made up of Hamas core students (…) operating in the universities” of the West Bank, a territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
However, media outlets such as Al Jazeera and activists report that the Israeli army attacked students that did sit-in protestpeacefully protesting against high tuition fees.

Students at a university in Nablus in the occupied West Bank were staging a sit-in to protest against high tuition fees so Israeli forces arrested them. The university itself has condemned their actions and says Israel had no right to raid the campus.

An executive of the university spoke of 25 introductions and demanded the immediate release of the students.
According to a Palestinian source who asked not to be named, the arrests came after messages were posted on social media sites calling on students to a “collective prayer, in solidarity with the resistance in Gaza.”
The prayer was organized following televised remarks by a spokesman for Hamas’ armed wing to mark 100 days since the start of the Gaza war on Sunday. Among other things, the spokesman said that many of the hostages held by Hamas and its allies are “probably” dead.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners Club, an association that supports those imprisoned in Israeli prisons, the Israeli military has arrested nearly 6,000 people in the West Bank since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. More than 340 Palestinians have been killed in the same period in this area.
The Hamas Health Ministry announced today that 24,100 people, mostly women, teenagers and young children, have been killed in the Gaza Strip.
